Description

Press release from the City of Chicago Heights: January 25, 2022 As temperatures continue to drop overnight, please be observant and follow some simple safety guidelines. --Remember to wear multiple layers of clothing. Hats, scarves, and gloves help to conserve body heat. --Keep a close eye! Space heaters should be turned off and fireplace embers should be put out completely before leaving a room. --Avoid frozen pipes. Let your water trickle overnight to prevent pipes from freezing. Open kitchen or bathroom cabinets to let warm air circulate around plumbing fixtures. --The stove is for cooking, not for heating.  Never use the stove or oven to heat your home. --Remember, your pets get cold, too. Bring them indoors, but if you can't, make sure they have shelter to keep warm and water that won't freeze. As always, remember to check on family, friends, neighbors, and especially the elderly, to ensure they are safe and secure during the frigid cold weather.  If you do have to travel during inclement weather, use precaution. High winds can cause drifting snow to accumulate and ice on the road forms easily in these temperatures. WARMING CENTER INFORMATION:  New Life Baptist Church will be open as an overnight warming center on Tuesday, January 24th due to plunging and unsafe temperatures. Doors are open between 5PM - 7PM for individuals seeking overnight shelter; no new guests after 7 PM. New Life Baptist Church is located at 1633 Wilson Avenue.
