BATAVIA, IL — Looking to improve schools, Batavia Public School District 101 is turning to the community for feedback on school facilities. Building Our Future Together, a committee chaired by three volunteers, is hosting the first of its sessions Feb. 1. District 101 families are invited to attend and share their thoughts in the session, taking place from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at Batavia High School, 1201 Main St. At the first event, attendees will learn about district buildings before they can provide feedback. "By being a part of the Building Our Future Together community engagement sessions, asking questions, and providing feedback, community members will have more of an understanding of what our students need for future success," chairperson Ginny Gaspar said in a statement. "We can then ask how they think we can take our school facilities to the next level." In a statement of his own, chairperson Brian Schwab said the community's opinions shared in the sessions are intended to help "place priority on their wants and needs." After a few sessions this spring, for which the subsequent dates have yet to be announced, the BOFT group will share gathered feedback and a proposed plan for long-range facilities with the Board of Education. "Even though students and staff are in our schools almost every day, community members don't often see the inner workings of our buildings and the impact they have on the success of students," chairperson Kelly Bleakley said in a statement. "The BOFT Community Engagement Sessions will give us the chance to learn more about this and provide the Board of Education with the community's vision for the future of our schools." Information on future sessions can be found on District 101's website.
