WRENTHAM, MA — A Wrentham businessman plans to enter the race for governor of Massachusetts, according to the Boston Globe. Chris Doughty, 59, a Republican and self-described "moderate" will compete against Geoff Diehl for the Republican nomination. "In this election, voters will have the crucial choice between the steady fiscal policies I will offer or unrestrained spending and policies that will burden our families," said Doughty in a statement on Wednesday. According to Doughty's LinkedIn page, before attending Harvard University, Doughty graduated from Brigham Young University in 1987 with a B.S. in economics. This comes after two-term Massachusetts Gov. Charlie Baker said he would not be seeking re-election in December. Attorney General Maura Healey, Harvard University professor Danielle Allen, and state senator Sonia Change-Diaz have announced their plans to run for state office on the Democratic side. Patch has reached out to Doughty's office for comment but has not heard back. This will be the first time Doughty has run for office.
