All-Original Band - Auditions this weekend
Meets
Lambertville MI
Description
I'll be calling people in the next couple of days to set up auditions for a new band project. This band will be all-original. This weekend will be informal auditions so I can meet folks, get an idea of your interests and how we may or may not fit. Don't worry. You don't have to prepare anything. If you know any Beatles or Eagles, we're gonna get along just fine. If you don't... how? How is that possible? Hahaha! Seriously, if you know classic rock, we'll know something in common. I've got links to a few originals at the bottom. If you want to show what you'd do on them, that's great, too. Ultimately, that's what this will be. The band will get a song. We'll all come up with a part. Try it together and then workshop it until we have a version that we're ready to record. From a previous ad, I have contact info for: Christine, Nathan, Larry, Pete, Tony, Matt, Bill and Robert. I'll be calling in the next couple of days to set up a time for the audition. If you're not one of those people, you need to shoot me your phone number. If you're not one of the first wave of folks who responded, I would love to get to know you. Please shoot an e-mail with some sample of something you've sung or played on. If you don't have anything, record something with your iphone and send me the iCloud link. Doesn't have to be a good quality recording. that's not what I'm interested in. I tried perhaps scaling down to just me and a vocalist and I don't think that project is going to work. I got MUCH better responses when I was looking for band members. What I'm looking for: 1. Some vocal ability, especially to sing harmony. If you can sing lead vocals, all the better. I have no ego on being a vocalist and am well-aware of my limitations. Ultimately, I'm looking for an Eagles type situation here where everybody can sing at least a little. Maybe you don't think you can front a band, but maybe you can sing a song. Or maybe you don't want to sing lead on a song, but you love to sing and can sing harmony. 2. If you write songs, GREAT. I don't need to be the only songwriter in this band. 3. If you ask if you can help write better lyrics for my songs, the answer is not just no, but "please don't be a walking Dunning Kruger poster child." But by all means, try writing your own stuff. You might find you really enjoy it. You might be great at it. 4. Not really concerned with much else. Obviously, looking for people who can play. But you don't have to have a long history or resume on this. Age, race, religion, uh... what else can I add to this list that's not related to playing and singing... ANYTHING other than the music, I honestly don't care. You can be a purple person from Planet X. If you can blow a saxophone we're gonna get along great. Looking for another guitarist. A bassist. A drummer. Another keyboard player, especially one that's ACTUALLY a keyboard player, would be great. I'm primarily a guitar player, but I play a lot of keys these days. Last band I was in was a classic rock band and I played keys. (It's murder out there finding an audition as a guitar player.) If it isn't clear, I'm a singer, guitarist, keyboardist and am not averse to upgrading on ANY of those things. If we can't fill one or two of those spots, I'd consider a show where we had just 2 or 3 people and sequenced what we needed to. I'm still flexible on the final form of this. If it ends up being 2 studio rats like the Rembrandts, that's fine. Though I would like the ability to play out, somehow. What will we do? First, we'll record songs. My songs if nobody else has written any. But the band's songs if we have multiple songwriters. I have maybe 50 or so originals and I'm lazy and unmotivated AF and only record a few of them now and then. Also, never really with a full arrangement. Just with a quick songwriter demo. But we can record full versions of the songs with the band. Then, if you like, we can make music videos, post them to youtube. And lastly, play out somewhere? some time? I have no idea how any of that works any more. I also have never been involved in an all-original project, before. So, we won't be doing the $500/night classic rock cover band at a bar thing. I honestly don't even know where an all-original band goes to get things going. Seems reasonable to me that getting songs recorded and videos made is a good first start. Maybe we can get to SxSW or some other music festivals. Who knows. And a last note: most classic rockers are old people like me in their 50s and 60s. And I realize that this is probably the pocket where my songs fit. But nobody signs a new band with a bunch of social-security eligible people in it. Whereas, a young frontman or frontwoman could use this as the platform for a new music career. So, young folks, don't be intimidated by all the gray hair (or lack of hair.) I'm good with basically being the backing band for somebody who wants to start a career. I'm in this to get my songs recorded and performed. If somebody else becomes a star along the way, all the better. Again, if you don't know what I'm talking about, but are interested in a project, please send me something with you playing and singing, along with your phone number, I'll be calling. If you reached out before, but didn't include a phone number, please respond with your music clip and phone number. If you just want to make sure, introduce yourself. Send me some samples. I'll get in touch. Cheers! The Beat is Ours Forever! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GMcZkEFR8gU https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=US0bPQ1gEEQ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mzZwZ1_zXHs
