Christian McKee, music director for the Oregon Mandolin Orchestra, will lead two mandolin combos Feb. 27, when the OMO Chamber Ensemble and The Big North Duo perform at Artichoke Community Music’s Café.
The matinee concert’s wide-ranging program will feature the OMO Chamber Ensemble performing pieces written by Italian composer Carlo Munier (1859-1911) and Iowa composer John Goodin (1951-2021), whose work has been performed by mandolin orchestras around the world. The Chamber Ensemble also will perform pieces by Argentine composer Astor Piazzolla (1921-1992), Austrian composer Wolfgang Mozart (1756-1791) and German composer Robert Schumann (1810-1856).
The Big North Duo, featuring McKee on mandolin, mandola and vocals, with Paul Prato on bass, will open the show with a set of swing, blues and country favorites. Special guest Jeffrey Reynolds will add his violin to the mix.
