I think the OP was talking more about the difficulty to find good people on CL due to misleading information for whatever musical journey you want to go on, any age. If you like certain things, then let it be known when looking people to jam with; send them your post!; that's the main point. But from your post, you have to realize some play music for different reasons. You may no longer like playing live but many only like playing live and find jamming a waste of time. They may even play for free with the load out/load in part of the fun for some. Then there are some who love recording and the details of getting it right in the studio in perfect timing to a click track. Some just like jamming with friends/telling stories/drinking some brews or even playing music alone or to family. There is room for all, but as the OP indicated, no matter what you want out of music, when posting on CL be honest, have integrity, don't BS a person trying to find a band or don't BS a band trying to find members and be smart. Also note, planning to play live and getting paid is vastly different than planning to jam with friends. The main difference is you work for the business/event/person that hired you so you better play what they like which draws in customers who spend money. That's why you have to play some tired old songs. Think of the biggest cover bands that come through our area; very sure they hate a lot of the songs they play but when playing those live it is an adrenaline rush. Same with signed artists....they probably grow tired of playing that same hit(s) night after night, but the crowd makes the difference (plus the $). That's why in ads, if bands have "gigs on the calendar" it should mean they are looking to play out live for pay and need someone to get up to speed quickly, but in reality I've found "gigs on the calendar" to mean playing at the neighbor's birthday party on their deck for beer. Not saying that's not fun but folks need to be honest with their posts and not make it sound like they are playing Walnut Creek. You said "The best venues; enthusiastic crowds, good sized stages, pro level earnings and a sense of "something cool is happening", are now and have always been, suited for younger bands/ folks who stay up late, drink too much, spend a lot of money and Rock!" Being young doesn't equate to making it in the music business. It doesn't hurt as they have less responsibilities generally to pursue dreams, but look at the NC/SC Beach Music scene made up of typically older musicians, make good money and play to enthusiastic crowds of the age who spend a lot of money. Not my style of music but they come through town all the time to large crowds. And from what I've seen most "older" musicians spend far more money than younger people on equipment, food and drink. And I don't care what age you are, do what you like or play anywhere you want with any age. BB King sat down the whole time I saw him and think he was in his 80's, but I loved it! Music doesn't know your age. Cheers.
