The “Big Band Bash” just happens to be the day before Valentine’s and on Super Bowl Sunday — so why not treat yourself to some fun! Whether you’re in the mood to listen, dance, have a great afternoon with friends or celebrate Valentine’s with someone special, this is the concert for you. The afternoon of music is sponsored by Bellevue Family Dentistry. The concert is free, but donations will be accepted at the door. Masks are recommended. The Riverside Ballroom bar will be open. Music from the AVB Jazz Band will feature Ellington, Gershwin, Basie, Miller and more, much of it accompanied by well-known local vocalist April Strom, known for her signature smooth style that makes everything special, from ballads to swing. The Riverside Ballroom concert is part of the 2021-2022 40th anniversary concert season for the AVB Community Band (formerly known as the Allouez Village Band), which continues monthly through May. Some of the afternoon’s selections include a “Salute to Glenn Miller,” “It Don’t Mean a Thing,” “Mack the Knife,” “Bye, Bye Love,” “Stormy Weather,” “Over the Rainbow” and “My Funny Valentine.” The rest of the AVB Jazz Band’s selections – you’ll have to come down to the Riverside Ballroom at 2 p.m. on Sunday, February 13, to find out what they’ll be!
