Helen Smithwick is a botanical illustrator. Her preferred medium is watercolor, but she also enjoys working with colored pencils, graphite and ink.
She lives in the foothills of the Rocky Mountains in Colorado Springs and is a proud grandmother of 6 beautiful children. As a child she always had a pencil in her hand and loved to draw. After her retirement, she was able to rediscover that first love and returned to school. She graduated with distinction from the Denver School of Botanical Illustration in 2013, and received the Sydney Parkinson Award for excellence in botanical illustration and best overall portfolio of her graduating class.
She is a member of the American Society of Botanical Illustrators, the Rocky Mountain Society of Botanical Artists, and the Commonwheel Artists Co-op in Manitou Springs, where her work is currently displayed.
