Description

Salt & Light Presented by Lucienne Thomasi Jawo As a young woman growing up in The Republic of Gambia, Lucienne faced a myriad of challenges that were typical of most kids in the African continent. The smallest country within mainland Africa, 97 percent of the population of The Gambia is Muslim. Her faith was strong as child, learning from both her Grandmother and her Mother. Lucienne had dreams of gaining an education in France but God had different plans for her. Lucienne came to the United States in 1997 alone and with no family or friends to earn her Bachelor’s degree and later her M.B.A., and eventually became a US citizen. Throughout her journey, she has experienced racism, times of darkness, and loneliness but it was always her deep faith that always shone and guided her. Lucienne will share her ministry of S.A.L.T. She will take us on her journey from The Gambia where her grandfather sold raw salt for a living - carrying it on her head to take it market miles away - to growing up in a culture where domestic violence is accepted, to immigrating to a new country by herself, then finally "making a deal" with God, to bring the ministry of the Divine Mercy to Gambia. Lucinenne and her husband David operate a nonprofit to help African school children through a book bag drive and other initiatives. Lucienne has lived what the Gospel of Mathew describes as " we must be both salt and light..." and Pope Francis says "...salt must add flavor and light must illuminate..." The event may be moved to St. Margaret of Cortona social space if we experience staffing shortages at the venue. We will notify all registered attendees and our mailing list at least three days before the event should the venue be moved to St. Margaret. Join us for our monthly conversation on current topics, trends, the Bible, and more all from a Catholic perspective. The event is free to attend you just pay for your food and drink of choice. Open to all adults 21 and over. We meet from 6:00-8:00 p.m. with a social time, speaker, and Q&A. Connect with one another and bring our Catholic faith and conversation into our community.
