Local duet graces WRM stage! Return to Normal is the spousal musical duo of Corinne Becknell Lucas and Marty Lucas. With more than thirty-seven years of collaboration, Return to Normal has developed an almost psychic rapport, a lush, dreamy sound, and an extensive catalog of songs mythologizing the people, places and events they've witnessed in rural Indiana -- the Palm Sunday tornadoes, the neglected cemeteries abandoned by the Midwest diaspora, the ravages of the opioid epidemic. Their story songs employ the language of traditional folk/americana with touches of jazz, rock, and electronica. They’ve released five albums: Overflown (2011), Blinking in the Brackens (2012), The Briars and the Brome (2016), Concise (2017) and On a Dream Sea (2019). Corinne and Marty first performed together in the 80s as keyboardists in regional new wave dance bands. In the 90s, using the name Ctrl-Z, they produced electronica soundtracks for the Internet Multicasting Service, an Internet pioneer based first in Washington D.C. and later in San Francisco. In 2007 they re-focused their music on the guitar and piano and became Return to Normal. As multi-instrumentalists, they blend traditional songwriting with modern sounds and jazz based harmonics, but at heart Corinne and Marty are true folk musicians. They ignore commercial trends, choosing to focus on making music with a bold, unique sound and honest, thought provoking lyrics. Corinne is on staff with a regional community foundation. Marty is a store-front lawyer and an editor/producer for Public Resource.Org, a California based nonprofit at the forefront of the international Access to Knowledge movement.
