Explore the sounds of breeding season! In this part 1 of 2 training series you will learn all about FrogWatch USA. Join us in a safe and socially distanced environment as you learn about the FrogWatch program and what is expected of FrogWatch USA citizen science volunteers. Upon completion of this FREE 2-part training you will understand the importance of monitoring frogs and toads in our rapidly changing environment, how to identify South Mountain Reservation's frog residents by sound, how to collect field data and input it into a national database, and will be assigned a special breeding location in SMR to monitor throughout the breeding season (March-August). Training is limited to 20 people and masks are required. What you can expect: Training Part 1: Intro to FrogWatch USA & Breeding Calls Training Part 2: Quiz & Test your Breeding Call Knowledge (Part 2 will be offered March 1st & March 3rd) *Upon successful completion you will be set up with a breeding location within SMR. *Data is collected just after sundown and may require a short hike in the dark. *Visit site a minimum of 4 times through the breeding season. (Some sites will dry up by June) Others will be monitored through August. *Lots of help along the way to ensure a positive and fun experience! This is a great opportunity for parents and their students & individuals (Ages 12+).
