Join local dancer Jasmine Powell in an exploration of Contemporary African Dance; open to all levels and experience. This class is an exploration of traditional West African and Modern based practices incorporating grounded rhythmic syncopation and lengthened suspensions. Participants will warm muscle groups through dynamic qualities involving fast and slow twitch muscle application, isolating body regions and layering sequences on top of each other to foster a full-bodied experience of physicality and expression. This dance form helps illuminate how organically embodied features provide breadth to the body’s facility, activate muscle tonality, and provide a new understanding of the body's mechanics in an intricate and authentic way. Culture Mill is a Performing Arts Laboratory, whose mission is to foster a creative ecosystem based in Saxapahaw, North Carolina, through the cross-pollination of artist residencies, educational outreach and groundbreaking immersive artworks from local, national and international artists.
