Learn what makes for an effective letter to a legislator, and hang out with friends as you compose messages to your representatives. Did you know that one of the most effective ways to influence legislators’ decision making, and thus participate in the democratic process, is to send them hand-written letters? It’s simple, inexpensive, and accessible to most people. This can be a relief to folks who’d like to be more involved in the legislative processes within their local governments, but often they may still find themselves asking what makes for a good letter to a law maker and to whom exactly they should be writing. Interested in learning more? If so, join the LGBTQ+ Center on Friday, February 5 from 12- 2 PM for a brunch and letter writing session. We aren’t going to try to influence you about who you should write to or what you should say, but we will try to help you determine which legislators you can write to based on your district and provide you with a light brunch to support your own participation in the democratic process.
