SOMERVILLE, MA — Police have identified a man they say fired a shot during an armed home invasion in Somerville. Ricardo Montejo Jr. faces a litany of charges in connection with the Jan. 17 incident, including home invasion, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, discharging a firearm within 500 feet of a building and other weapons charges. The victim told police he was assaulted by Montejo, who lives in the same multi-family home on Perkins Street, according to the police report. The confrontation began outside the man's apartment, and he told police he tried to get away from Montejo by going into his room. Montejo followed and cornered the man in his bedroom, hitting him several times in the face with the grip of a gun, police said. Montejo pointed the gun at the man and a woman inside his apartment, threatening to kill them both and making statements like "I'll ice you" and "you better not be calling the cops," according to the police report. Montejo pulled the slide back to show the pair the gun was loaded and continued beating the man, police said. The gun went off during one of the strikes, sending a bullet through the window of the bedroom, according to the police report. Responding officers noticed an open cut on the man's left eyebrow, as well as a hole through the window of his room, the police report stated. The man pointed Montejo out on the rear porch of the house, and Montejo was arrested on a charge of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon. Officers searched the area around the porch and found a semi-automatic Polymer80 "ghost gun" and three loaded magazines near the back fence of the house, according to the police report. Montejo was charged with additional crimes after the gun was discovered, police said.
