NORTHPORT, NY — Trixie and Annie, two female kittens who went to the Northport Cat Rescue Association as orphans, are the rescue's Kittens of the Week. Trixie is between 5 and 6 months old and is a happy kitten with the spunkiest personality, according to Lora Wild, a volunteer with the rescue. "Trixie came to us as a baby orphan and had some health issues," Wild wrote in an email. "She was a little fighter though and overcame every single one. She is healthy and amazing now, almost showing gratitude for the help she received, showing a real zest for life." Trixie enjoys sitting on people's shoulders while purring. She loves meals and tries to convince her foster mom to share her food with her. She loves to play and gets along well with other cats. After running around, she will happily curl up next to someone and fall asleep. "She has beautiful, big wide set eyes and low set ears which together make her look like Yoda," Wild said. "She is simply amazing." Annie is a tortie/calico kitten between 3 and 4 months old. She was found outside in the cold at an apartment complex all by herself, begging for food, Wild said. "The kind resident that found her brought Annie to our rescue cottage late at night, and she was crying and scared," Wild said. "Into a loving foster home she went, and she has come such a long way, and is turning into a confident lovebug with a silly personality. She is being fostered with 3 older cats and can keep up with their sassiness. She has a way about her. The other cats she is being fostered with are very scared still, but when Annie enters the room, they all run to play with her. They sense her gentleness, and her playfulness too. She loves cuddles and will roll over for belly rubs and gives head butts too." Wild said the two kittens are small but mighty. "They both overcame obstacles and show their love for life. We want them both to find their special forever homes soon, so they only remember happiness as they grow up." They are both spayed, have all their shots, are litter box-trained, and micro-chipped and FELV/FIV negative. If you are interested in meeting Trixie or Annie, you can head to the Northport Cat Rescue Association website and fill out an application to let them know you would like to meet them or any of the other kittens and cats.
