STAMFORD, CT — A 38-year-old woman has died from injuries sustained in a car accident in Stamford over the weekend, according to an update from police.
Lauren Orlando, of Long Island, was taken to Stamford Hospital with life-threatening injuries on the night of Jan. 22 following a two-car accident at the intersection of Broad Street and Greyrock Place.
Sgt. Jeffrey Booth, supervisor of the Stamford Police Department's Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Squad (CARS), said Orlando died on Jan. 23.
Police said the accident occurred around 8:20 p.m. last Saturday after Orlando's Honda Civic was traveling northbound on Greyrock Place approaching Broad Street when it collided with a Toyota Rav-4, which was heading west on Broad Street.
After the collision, Orlando continued north where her car mounted the sidewalk and stopped after hitting a tree, police said. The driver of the Toyota, a 60-year-old Stamford woman, was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries and released after treatment.
"The initial investigation indicates that speed and a traffic light violation may have been contributing factors," Booth said in an update Monday afternoon. "The investigation is ongoing and active."
Police are asking anyone that may have witnessed the collision or may have further information to call 203-977-4712.
The accident is being investigated by officers Sean Grabowski and Lindsey Yanicky.
