NEWTOWN, CT — A proposal to build a 27-unit apartment building at South Main Street and Borough Lane in Newtown was rejected last week by the Planning and Zoning Commission, the News-Times reported. Proposed by Brookfield-based landscape architect Robert Sherwood, the project would have required the demolition of a home on the 1.6-acre property, and the construction of a three-story building with 50 parking spaces. The commission turned it down unanimously, seemingly agreeing with residents who opposed the project because it was too much for the historic neighborhood. Sherwood told the publication that he plans to bring a new proposal back to the commission in the future, but he did not elaborate on what the new plan might contain. Read the News-Times story.
