Here are the top three stories in Des Moines today: The Des Moines City Council is getting heated backlash after new procedural rule changes. The council voted 6 to 1 to amend various meeting practices, including lengthening the time the public can speak and limiting each speaker to two minutes. The council's newest and only black member, Indira Sheumaker, publicly said that she believes the new rules target her and her constituents (KCCI Des Moines) This spring, a public park program that offers children in underserved communities free meals and activities will be expanding to more parks. For over a decade, Evelyn K Davis Park has hosted this program. Now it will be expanded to Drake Park, Martin Luther King Jr. Park, and Weeks Middle School Park. (Des Moines Register) Pastor Timothy Rude, the founder of the Walnut Creek Church, was charged with criminal mischief after allegedly driving his son and his son's friends around Des Moines as they banged on people's front doors. They pounded on people's doors as part of a TikTok challenge called the "heartbeat challenge." Rude admitted that he drove his son and his friends around the west side 24 times during four months in December.
