Apprentice Mechanic For more information on job functions, requirements and to apply please visit: This position performs entry to mid-level work such as preventive maintenance and mechanical repairs on all county vehicles and equipment. Work Schedule - 4 ten-hour shifts (either Monday-Thursday or Tuesday-Friday) Annual Uniform Allowance = $150.00 Monthly Tool Allowance = $100.00 Generally, the hiring range is $43,011-$53,764. Qualifications, education and experience as it relates to the position will be taken into consideration when determining hiring salary. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: (The following examples are illustrative only and are not intended to be all inclusive.) • Change lubricants, filters and performs other preventive maintenance functions as necessary. Performs safety inspections on any/all County equipment. • General repairs on automotive and heavy construction equipment to include the repair of gasoline and diesel engines, repair of electrical systems including lights, repair of hydraulic systems, and repair/adjustment to drive train and brake systems. • Perform diagnostic road tests. Travel to various locations for tire maintenance, repair work, drop-off and pick-up of vehicles, parts and/or delivery of fluids and equipment. • Makes repairs to snow and ice equipment • Inspects defective and malfunctioning equipment and performs diagnostic tests using diagnostic software and other equipment as required. • Performs service calls in the field. • Performs duties and training in both the light-duty and heavy-duty shops. • On-Call during snow season to support the operations of snow removal fleet and the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office. • Repairs and replaces tires on all equipment. • Other duties may be assigned as needed. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: High school diploma or GED equivalent, with (2) two years of automotive/diesel mechanical experience. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES, & REGISTRATIONS: • Must possess a valid Colorado Driver’s License upon hire, with complying insurance. Review of motor vehicle record is required at time of hire and periodically throughout employment. • A valid State of Colorado Commercial Driver’s License and the ability to obtain a Class A license with no “E” restriction as defined by the DOT within 180 days of hire. • This position requires successful completion of a criminal background check including fingerprinting through a national database.
