CHATHAM, NJ — A man from New York was charged in the theft of residents' mail, according to Chatham Township police Chief Thomas Miller on Monday.
Mohammed Khan, 19, of Jackson Heights was charged on Jan. 14 with theft and trafficking in personal identifying information pertaining to another person, police said.
Khan is in custody in the Bergen County Correctional Facility. It's unclear if bail was set.
Khan was accused of taking mail "from several mailboxes in the township during the overnight hours" on Jan. 9, Miller said in a news release.
Other mail thefts have occurred in surrounding towns, Miller said, without providing details. "it is still an active investigation," he said.
Khan is accused of stealing mail, including a debit card, Miller said.
