CONCORD, NH — If you're getting ready to retire and you live in New Hampshire, you are living in one of the best states to reside, according to a new study. WalletHub.com, the personal finance website, released its 2022 Best State to Retire study and the Granite State placed ninth. Dozens of metrics were eyed as part of the study including affordability, health care, and quality of life. New Hampshire ranked second to the lowest in the country on property crimes, seventh in the "elderly-friendly" labor market, ninth in percent of population 65 or older. Health care facilities per capita were in the middle but life expectancy and taxpayer ranking were above average. Read the full report here. Snowmobilers: Stay On Marked Trails The increase in snowmachine crashes in New Hampshire lately has led to a reminder to riders by state officials to stay on established and marked trails. "Snowmobilers may only ride on trails that are designated and signed as a snowmobile trail," Capt. Michael Eastman of the New Hampshire Fish & Game Department. "Although many new snowmobiles are marketed toward, and capable of, operating in deep powder and off-trail, if it is not a signed trail, operators in New Hampshire must have written landowner permission to ride there." There are almost 7,000 miles of trails on both public and private property — but ususage of private property is a privilege, he said, not a given.
