JOLIET, IL — A 25-year-old Joliet resident who lives in the 800 block of Sherman Street is now in the Will County Jail facing charges of DUI, reckless driving and fleeing/eluding the police. Late Monday night, Joliet police officers arrested Jesus Alvarez Jr. after police say Alvarez tried to speed away from a traffic stop near South Chicago Street and Mills Road. Around 10:50 p.m., Alvarez was driving his car southbound while in the northbound lanes of South Chicago Street, Joliet police announced. When officers tried to stop the motorist, Alvarez "refused to stop at which time the vehicle crossed the snow-covered center median back into the southbound lanes," according to police reports. After Alvarez pulled into a driveway in the 1400 block of South Chicago Street, the Joliet man exhibited signs of alcohol impairment, according to police spokesman Dwayne English. Officers also found an open alcohol container in Alvarez's vehicle, police noted. Alvarez was booked into the Will County Jail around 12:45 a.m. Tuesday and his bail was set at $3,0o0, jail logs show. Bail for Jesus Alvarez Jr., who lives on Joliet's Sherman Street, was set at $3,000. Mugshot via Joliet police
