JOLIET, IL — A 30-year-old Joliet man was arrested last weekend after Joliet police say he crashed his car into a small retention ditch along Theodore Street because he was under the influence of alcohol. Israel Giles was booked into the Will County Jail around 1 a.m. on Saturday on charges of driving under the influence of alcohol.
Around 10:15 p.m. Friday, officers were sent to the 1600 block of Theodore after learning of a wreck involving one car. The driver crashed into the small ditch on the north side of the road, police reports stated.
"Giles indicated that he was uninjured and that he did not know how the crash occurred," according to Joliet police.
Giles showed signs of alcohol impairment and Joliet police saw an open alcohol container inside of his vehicle, police reports reflect.
Giles refused to perform field sobriety tests, and he was placed into custody without incident, police said.
Giles lives in the apartment units in the 300 block of North Larkin Avenue. He was released from the Will County Jail over the weekend after posting 10 percent of his $3,000 bail, jail logs show.
