Good day, people of Toledo! It's me again, Brad King, your host of the Toledo Daily. First, today's weather: Very cold. High: 20 Low: 1. Here are the top five stories today in Toledo: A warrant has been issued for Nolan Burkholder, who Toledo Police say was driving drunk when he struck a 3-wheeled motorcycle and killed passenger 29-year-old Donella Crenshaw five months ago. The driver of the motorcycle, Fernando Barringer, is also facing charges of vehicular manslaughter as his license was suspended at the time of the accident. (13abc Action News)The family of Daniel Wiggins Jr., whose body was found in Swan Creek nearly two years ago, is asking for answers from the Toledo Police Department. Wiggins had been pulled over by Toledo Police six months before his body was found, but his family states there is no recorded reason for the traffic stop and the location of the stop is unclear. (WTOL)A woman has been hospitalized following a house fire at a home belonging to Sir Maejor Page, who is currently under indictment for fraud. Toledo Fire & Rescue responded to the scene in the 2000 block of Glendale Avenue and a space heater is believed to be the cause of the fire. (13abc Action News) University of Toledo Professor Dr. Sridhar Viamajala has received a $145,000 grant from the Ohio Water Development Authority to help transform agricultural waste into useful resources. (Press Release Desk) Joanne Mercer, originally from Toledo, appeared on Jeopardy Monday night to face off against current champion Amy Schneider, who has amassed 38 straight wins. Mercer is not the first local Jeopardy star as the show has seen contestants such as a Siena Heights University professor in 2021, a researcher from the University of Toledo in 2019, an Cardinal Stritch alum in 2015, and a Toledoan in 2016. (WTOL) Last week, we told you about our new favorite non-alcoholic go-to — the refreshingly bitter drinks from our partners at Betera. They're chef-created from natural botanicals, lightly effervescent and worthy of life beyond "Dry January." We mentioned that their Ginger-Orange was excellent; we've since tried Elderflower-Lime and loved it as well — light and floral with the perfect amount of zing. We're converts. Enough of you took Betera up on their 15% discount on first orders for Patch Daily readers that they've extended the offer for another week. Use PATCH15 at checkout. Highly recommended — try Betera here.
