DANVILLE, CA — The Town of Danville is asking for public input on a plan to update its Downtown Master Plan. The town is partnering with urban design firm SWA to "reimagine how we might use some of the public spaces within our downtown to provide essential connection, interaction, and engagement." Through re-envisioning downtown, the town hopes to create "activated public spaces that are visually coordinated and balance the need for adequate public parking, drainage facilities, accessibility to all businesses and essential services such as trash pick-up," according to a town website devoted to the downtown plan. Until Feb. 14, Danville residents and stakeholders are invited to participate in a 14-question online survey about how they wish to "live, work and play within its treasured downtown." The survey asks questions like, "what three qualities of Downtown Danville do you or your family enjoy most?" and "if there was one thing that could be improved to encourage you to visit Downtown Danville more often, what would it be?" The survey also asks respondents to rank the public spaces, outdoor programs, and street elements they enjoy the most about the downtown. As of Monday morning, the survey has already received 819 responses. The town is also hosting a number of outreach tables throughout January and February to explain the project. Upcoming outreach events include: Danville Library, 1/26, 12-2 Farmers' Market, 1/29, morning Peet's Coffee, 2/4, 9-11 Costco, 2/5, 10-2 Farmers' Market, 2/5, morning Trader Joe's Danville Square, 2/8, 1-3 Farmers' Market, 2/12, morning The town will incorporate community feedback to produce a draft of a DMP in May or June, and the draft will be finalized and approved in the fall. See the main project website and an FAQ flyer for more information.
