CORNELIUS, NC — Wes Choplin was honored at Tuesday's town hall meetin gin Cornelius for going the extra mile during one of the worst points of the pandemic.
Choplin, owner and chef at Choplin's Steak and Seafood, received a plaque commending his service to the town during a great time of need.
Choplin and his staff served meals to students while local schools were forced to offer instruction online instead of in-person. During the course of the school year, Choplin and his team made an average of 700 meals a week that could be picked up by parents or delivered to students to eat.
"His thoughtfulness, compassion, and innovation are all exemplary characteristics of the Cornelius Way," said Mayor Woody Washam. "In unprecedented times, unprecedented actions are necessary, and we're grateful to Wes for stepping up and making such a great difference in our community."
