ALAMEDA, CA — Inflation has taken a bite out of family budgets over the past year, but here's a way to control costs a bit — you may be eligible for a 15 percent discount on your garbage bill in Alameda. Alameda County Industries offers the discounts to two groups, seniors and low income. To qualify for the senior discount, "the head of household of the residential premises is 65 years of age or older." To qualify for the low income discount, "the customer's household qualifies as a very-low-income household under the Section 8 eligibility guidelines as determined by the Federal Housing and Urban Development (HUD) formula." Discount Applications Senior Discount (15%) – Must be 65 and over and show proof of age (I.D. or Driver's license). LIRA (low income) Discount (15%) — Must show proof of income.
