DETROIT — Detroit Police arrested a person Monday in connection to the killing of a store clerk during a robbery on the city's westside last week.
The suspect is accused of fatally shooting a 64-year-old man and robbing the store located on the 20400 block of James Couzens Freeway near Greenfield and Eight Mile roads, according to police.
Additionally, the suspect was wanted for an armed robbery at the Golden Beauty Supply Shop on the 17500 block of West 7 Mile Road in Detroit, police said.
"This is excellent police work by our officers to get a dangerous suspect off the streets," Detroit Police Chief James White said. "We continue to relentlessly pursue dangerous criminals who pose a threat to our community. My sincere thanks to our Special Response Team (SRT), Homicide Unit, undercover officers, and 8 the Precinct officers."
Officials said the man entered the store and attempted to buy some alcohol, when he fatally shot the clerk and pointed his gun at another store clerk, demanding him to open the cash register.
He then fled with two cash register drawers, officials said.
