Happy Wednesday, people of Southampton! Diane Witek here with everything you need to know to get this day started. Here's what's going on in Southampton today. First, today's weather: Mostly sunny and colder. High: 26, low: 12. Here are the top stories in Southampton today: According to Southampton Village Police, during the early morning hours of Jan. 18, a resident reported that their 2020 Mercedes Benz C300 was stolen from their yard on Gin Lane. On the same day, a resident on Old Town Crossing reported that their 2021 BMW X5 was stolen from their driveway, police said. In both cases, the keys/fob were left in the vehicles, police said. Both vehicles were recovered later in New Jersey, police said. (Southampton Patch) On Thursday, Adonay Abrego-Vasquez, 36, a Glen Cove man was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated and second-degree aggravated unlicensed operations after he rear-ended a school bus in Southampton, police said. The bus had one passenger and neither the driver nor the passenger reported any injuries at the time of the crash, police said. A passenger in the van was extracted from the vehicle by the Southampton Fire Department and airlifted by Suffolk County Police aviation to Stony Brook University Hospital for injuries sustained in the crash, police said. (Southampton Patch)When Judge Thomas Rademaker ruled Gov. Kathy Hochul's mask mandate for schools unconstitutional, Hochul said she'd fight back. After an appeals court judge granted a stay, New York's mask mandate was reinstated Tuesday afternoon. Justice Robert Miller scheduled another hearing on the mask issue for Friday morning.
