Description

*I also posted this under general for sale* I have a 40 gallon glass aquarium which I no longer use that I would like to sell. 48"L x 12"W x 16" D. When looking for similar tanks, I found that a comparable 50 gallon tank from Top Fin is going for $110 on PetSmart, but obviously that one is larger & brand new. This would make a good hospital/QT tank since it isn't the prettiest, could be used as a breeder tank. Could also make a good terrarium or small vivarium. I am open to reasonable offers. I own many tanks myself and I understand the importance of a water test, etc. I can do an overnight water test for a worthwhile offer, but I don't really want to deal with it otherwise. The last time I had this tank set up was last year for goldfish. I had it up for 5 years before upgrading to a larger tank. I have never had any issues but it wouldn't hurt to reseal it. I've written up an extensive description so that you can figure out if you are seriously interested. I cleaned the tank & I have not used harsh chemicals in it. It has been exclusively used as an aquarium, not a terrarium, if this is a concern to you. There is a tiny bit of sand left in the bottom but it'd be easy to hose out outside. I would have done so but it is at my office and I only have the kitchen sink to work with. Pros: - this has an "open" frame - no bar in the middle, which some folks prefer - the tank is freshly cleaned and ready to go, just a little sand - the tank is made of thick glass rather than acrylic; many folks prefer glass - I can deliver this tank to you and help you bring it up to your house if the offer is worthwhile Possible concerns: - there are some normal wear & tear scratches in the glass - the prior owner resealed some of the tank; I haven't had any issues but it isn't the cleanest looking work, though luckily it is only at the bottom - the frame is a darkish faux wood, which some folks may not like; I never got around to it but it seems like it would be rather easy to sand the outside of the frame by hand and paint over it with something like black acrylic paint - the silicone isn't in perfect shape but hasn't presented any issues with my own use, the tank could always be resealed with tank safe silicone - there is a little bit of hardwater staining that would require some elbow grease to fully remove - there is some chipping at a couple of the corners but again, I've not had any issues If you are new to aquariums then there are a few things you should know: - I'd suggest that a "long" tank like this at 40 gallons would really shine if it were planted and contained some kind of tiny schooling fish or possibly as a mansion of a tank for a Betta or as a Betta sorority tank... this isn't sufficient for a pair of goldies and goldfish should really be kept together as they are social fish, so please consider a larger tank if you want goldfish - 40 gallons may not sound like a lot, but that is still around 350lbs of water plus the weight of the glass - you will need a strong stand or suitable piece of furniture to hold this up & you can find instructions online for DIY - some rental properties may not allow a tank of this size unless it is used as a terrarium - I am happy to try to answer any questions you might have about aquariums and fishkeeping should you buy this tank Please text me with an offer and I will let you know if it is available, etc. You can call but my phone is always on DND and I might not see a voicemail message for a while. Thank you.
