Having a problem with my car

Hi, I have an old dodge grand caravan SE. 3.8 liter engine. 139,000 miles When I drive it the check engine light comes on. Then the car slows down. The gear shifts. I went to the auto part store. They scanned it. Says shift solenoid malfunction. Transmission control system malfunction. Does anyone know what the problem is? And does anyone have a mechanic who can fix this and will not rake me over the coals financially to get it fixed? I live in medford. Thanks for any advice or help!
