How to find housing help

Rent is so ridiculous right now. How are people surviving? I know it is cheaper to buy a house, but when credit is barely decent and income isn't the greatest it is impossible!!!! I have to move to help my dad. He isn't doing the greatest. We do know to let go & let God, but I can't see any clear answers for what I am supposed to do. If anyone knows of any resources that help families on fixed income please please send me an email. I will do anything to make sure we have a place to live.
