Description
Join us in the Garden's Visitor Center classroom to learn Valentine's Day-themed techniques for Japanese Shibori fabric dyeing. Back by popular demand, we're thrilled to welcome Maria Tucker for another wonderful Make & Take event at The Garden! Learn the ancient art of fabric dyeing and create a piece of your own to take with you. Similar to modern tie-dye, this technique involves the precise folding and tying of fabric in order for the dye to be resisted in certain areas, resulting in incredible patterns that can be used alone or in sewing projects. Maria will teach you everything you need to know so you can create your own 15" x 60" silk scarf with a Valentine's Day motif. The class fee includes ALL materials needed to create your designs. About our Instructor Maria Tucker currently serves on The Botanic Garden Board. She is a landscape artist, a goldsmith, and a fabric colorist using only natural dyes. Maria has offered classes in fabric dyeing at The Botanic Garden and has also taught classes at Pathfinder School. Tickets are limited! Reserve your spot today! Please note: With the recent surge of COVID-19 cases in our area, we will be requiring that all participants wear masks regardless of vaccination status. Thank you for your cooperation to ensure we all stay safe and healthy. Located in the heart of Traverse City – on the beautiful grounds of Historic Barns Park – The Botanic Garden will be a year-round sanctuary of environmental preservation, recreation and education. Its 25 acres will nurture the soul, enliven our history and promote Michigan’s natural beauty. With an emphasis on plant species native to northwest Michigan, it will create and enhance habitats for various forms of wildlife. As a place of refreshment and solace, The Botanic Garden’s unique and original design will inform and inspire. After over a decade of careful planning and preparation, the garden is coming alive.
