Along with Kraftwork, they are considered a pioneering act in electronica. Their work with the electronic music label Ohr produced albums that had a pivotal role in the development of the German musical scene known as kosmische ("cosmic"). Throughout the late-1970s & 1980s, Tangerine Dream composed scores for more than 20 films. Some of the more famous soundtracks have been Sorcerer, Thief, Legend, Risky Business, The Keep, Firestarter, Flashpoint, Heartbreakers, Shy People and Near Dark. William Friedkin is often credited with helping Tangerine Dream break into the American film scene. While promoting The Exorcist in West Germany in 1974, he saw the trio perform a midnight show at an abandoned church in the Black Forest. "It was very halluncinatory," he recalls. "The audeince was dead quiet. I didn't know what to expect but the place was packed. There must have been a thousand people and there were no lights. No stage lights. No spot lights. They played on what was the alter, and the only light in the room while they played was the elctronic lights from their instruments." We look forward to sharing this cinematic dreamscape with you.
