Description

Open to all ages! Join us for an afternoon of healing and art as we open space for the community to dive into their creative expression! Rise and Shine is a non-profit mutual aid group based in Bowling Green, KY that has been heavily involved in tornado relief efforts. Our small, grassroots operation has raised over $9,000 in tornado relief funds, and has acted as one of the Western Kentucky's main distribution hubs, responsible for collecting over $30,000 worth of personal goods and supplies from various states for those that needed aid following this disaster, including New York and Ohio. We have been working on the ground since the storm, and can say, that outside of the more obvious needs of the community, such as financial aid, that there is an overwhelming demand for trauma-based services and healing spaces. We want to give the community a chance to come together and talk through the complex emotions that often arise after a climate disaster such as the one that Bowling Green endured, understanding that this is still a sensitive and triggering subject for the entire community. We are hosting this community craft day as a way for people to let loose a lil', and hopefully build some new relationships in the process. Free food and art supplies will be provided! Individuals that attend this event will have an opportunity to submit their artwork to our upcoming community healing zine, which is set debut in March 2022. Those that submit to the zine will have an opportunity to have receive compensation for their artwork, as we are still prioritizing folks that are still feeling the aftershocks of the storm. ARTISTS CAN REQUEST UP TO $100 IN COMPENSATION. No age restriction required.
