Join us Sun, Feb. 6, 2022 at 1:30 PM to celebrate Christy's debut novel. We'll read 2 segments in radio play fashion w/ fellow thespians! Christy Wilhelmi has a new book, and it's a novel! That's right, her debut work of fiction, Garden Variety, hits bookstores this February. Join us for a fun and entertaining book launch party at the place that inspired it all - Ocean View Farms (OVF) Organic community garden. What's Garden Variety about? Garden Variety is set in a community garden where life lessons co-mingle with gardening lessons, and an eclectic cast of characters tries to coexist in tight quarters. Love, death, and power plays keep the members of Vista Mar Gardens on their toes. When a neighbor threatens to shut the whole thing down, they must band together to save the garden before it's too late. Details for the event: This is an outdoor event in February, so dress for the weather. A small crew of thespians will read two short sections from the book, radio-play-style. Diesel bookstore will be hosting the bookshop, so please plan to buy a copy on site, and get it signed by the author. If you've already bought a copy, bring it to the event to get it signed. We are following all event guidelines for Los Angeles County so please stay posted for updates as things develop. Please plan to wear face protection (yes, even outdoors) and show proof of vaccination. Directions: Turn up the driveway at Rose and Centinela Avenues and drive all the way up, then around the corner to the main parking lot. Enter Ocean View Farms to the west through the open gate at the top of the hill. Wear sensible shoes as you traverse down the slope toward the huge pine tree at the center of the garden. You will find us at the meeting area under shade cloth...like a houseplant at the nursery. Follow posted signs and stay on the path. A Note About OVF: OVF is a member's only garden, and it is extremely important that all guests follow the rules of the garden: 1) Do not enter anyone's plot or garden project. Period. 2) Do not pick any fruit, vegetables or flowers from any garden on site. This will get Christy in huge trouble! And keep a watchful eye on small children to make sure they obey the rules as well. 3) Please stay on the pathways and in the gathering area for the event, and observe posted signs. In the event of inclement weather or other current events, we will post updates for rescheduling this event as a remote party via Zoom. Let's hope this doesn't become necessary.
