BRANDON, FL — Hillsborough County wants to recognize residents who go above and beyond protecting the environment with its annual award, Theodore Roosevelt Hillsborough Forever Conservation Award. If you know a county resident whose work has made a lasting difference for locals nominations are now open. The honor is given to an individual or group who exemplifies dedication to preserving the area's natural resources, county staff said. The award is named after Theodore Roosevelt, Jr., the 26th president of the United States and noted conservationist who placed more than 200 million acres under public protection. Nomination Requirements, According To Hillsborough County: Nominees must live or work in Hillsborough CountyBe a person who shows persistence and dedication to long-term conservation on the county's natural resourcesDemonstrates integrity in performance toward conservation goals, and display attribute of true conservation stewardship Nominations will go through the Jan K. Platt Environmental Lands Acquisition and Protection Program General Committee, which will send a recommendation to the Board of County Commissioners for approval. An award ceremony will be held in the spring to coincide with National Arbor Day. The deadline for nominations is Feb. 28.
