Description

NASHUA, NH — The city of Nashua has been selected to receive an innovation grant to assist in supporting economic mobility. The $10,000 DollarWise Innovation Grant, from the U.S. Conference of Mayors, was requested to support Spanish language preschool programming and family programs at the Arlington Street Community Center. Officials said, by offering preschool enrichment programming at no cost, the center hoped to level the playing field for families who would not otherwise have the opportunities. The money will be used to build on the center's current model — "tailoring preschool enrichment to the needs of non-English speaking families, including support and opportunities for caregivers and parents, such as workshops on managing child anxiety, delivered in Spanish and Portuguese," officials said. Mayor Jim Donchess said there were only seven winners for the grant nationally and in 2021, all of the communities were larger than Nashua. "We are so pleased to be chosen as a recipient city this year," he said. "This grant will infuse needed services for our Spanish-speaking youngsters in the Crown Hill neighborhood." Got a news tip?
