Gun Photos From Plainfield South Student Leads To Arrest: Cops

JOLIET, IL — A 17-year-old boy who attends Plainfield South High School has been charged with five crimes after Joliet police say he posted gun photos on his social media account, prompting detectives to further investigate. The Plainfield South student is now in the River Valley Juvenile Justice Center facing charges of aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, unlawful possession of ammunition, having no Firearm Owner's Identification card, possession of controlled substances and marijuana possession. According to Joliet police reports, the detective assigned to Plainfield South was notified Friday afternoon of photos depicting guns on the social media of the 17-year-old student. "Upon further investigation, it was determined that one of the firearms was at the juvenile's residence," police spokesman Dwayne English announced. Besides finding the gun and ammunition, Joliet police seized ecstasy pills and marijuana from the boy's residence, police said. The juvenile was taken into custody at Plainfield South High School without incident, police reported.
