DOWNERS GROVE, IL — If you haven't tried your hand at pickleball, the new sports craze that's been sweeping the nation, you're about to have plenty of opportunities in Downers Grove. The park district plans to add new nets, resurface current courts and add new courts to meet the demands of residents who want more chances to play pickleball. Three new pickleball nets will be installed at the Recreation Center, where lines will also be added to the courts to facilitate game play. In total, the Recreation Center will have six pickleball courts residents can use during open gym. Long-term updates include resurfacing of the two permanent outdoor pickleball courts at Doerhoefer Park. The park district is also discussing adding a new pickleball location in the village with more availability for residents. Upgrades are also expected at McCullom Park, which will undergo extensive improvements starting summer or fall of 2022. The redevelopment will include eight permanent pickleball courts, in addition to 16 flexible courts that can be used for pickleball or tennis. The park's current tennis courts are also set to be updated with LED lighting.
