Press release from UNC Greensboro Athletics: 1/24/2022 9:19:00 AM Story Links GREENSBORO, N.C. – In celebration of the 50th Anniversary of Title IX, which takes place on June 23, 2022, the UNC Greensboro (UNCG) Athletics department is planning a year-long salute to honor the accomplishments of current and former female student-athletes. Since Title IX was enacted in 1972, the lives of millions of girls and women have been positively impacted, and the University will be honoring Spartans over the next 12 months, highlighting their contributions to the athletics department, campus community, and society by providing a 360-degree view of their journey and educating our audiences. "Over 125 years ago, UNCG was founded as a women's institution for higher education," said UNCG Director of Athletics Brian Mackin. "We have a distinction unlike any other school in our state – with a long history of successful female student-athletes who have achieved greatness in the hallowed halls of athletic fame, as professional athletes, Olympians, coaches, educators, and leaders in business and industry. "The skills and lessons learned on the field are lessons that apply to life, and the friends made being part of a team last a lifetime. We look forward to a year of celebrating the achievements of Spartans throughout the year, and to inspiring the next generation of female athletes." Throughout 2022, UNCG Athletics will share impactful stories in multiple formats, across a variety of platforms – including long-form reporting, documentary storytelling, podcasts with current UNCG student-athletes, along with features across UNCG's various digital and social platforms: Twitter | Instagram | Facebook UNCG fans, donors, alumni and supporters are encouraged to engage in the storytelling process, and to shine a light on the female athlete contributions that have helped build the UNCG athletic department while highlighting their many triumphs and continued challenges. About UNCG Athletics Comprised of 17 Division I teams, UNCG Athletics is a member of the NCAA's Southern Conference (SoCon), the fifth-oldest conference at the Division I level.
