Community Literacy Series: Read Aloud and Valentines Card Making
Welcome to the Merry Barn Community Literacy Series!
The Merry Barn Writers’ Retreat is a joyful haven where creativity and curiosity thrive. It’s a place where community gathers to celebrate, collaborate, and explore art and story. We believe the power of words can make a more just, equitable, and compassionate world. In that vein, we’re launching a monthly Literacy Series for community members to come together to read, write, and create.
These creative community gatherings are for everyone -- children, adults, and elders alike. Each gathering highlights creativity through reading and hands-on projects. To start, we’ll listen to a read aloud of a children's book. Then there will be time to write and create a small project inspired from the text, and our own voice and story. The first gathering of this series starts in just a few weeks!
Spread the Love – February Event
It’s almost Valentine's Day and a perfect time to Spread the Love! For this event we’ll read Somebody Loves You, Mr. Hatch, a story of a neighborhood man, who after feeling lonely and blue, discovers how much his community cares about him. After reading we’ll have a snack, and make Valentines to send out to friends, family, and those who might need an extra reminder that they are loved too!
Saturday, February 5, 10:30-11:30 a.m.
417 River Road, Edgecomb, ME
This event is free and open to the public. Please register so we have enough materials for everyone.
We are so looking forward to seeing you!
