Multimedia jazz performance by the Nelda Swiggett Quintet benefiting an initiative bringing clean energy to a Seattle frontline community Nelda Swiggett's The Alaska Suite: a story of loss, beauty and hope depicts how the climate crisis is unfolding in Alaska and leaves audiences inspired to take action. The Alaska Suite is a 90-minute performance comprised of a jazz quintet, images, poetry, spoken word and audience participation. All proceeds from ticket sales will support Green Buildings Now, a grassroots initiative promoting social justice and climate resilience by working with frontline community leaders to remove fossil fuels from buildings in a just way. The first partnership will weatherize and decarbonize the campus of Bethany United Church of Christ on Beacon Hill in South Seattle, home to several organizations led by people of color. Co-sponsors include: Dharma Friendship Foundation, South Seattle Climate Action Network, Faith Action Climate Team, Interfaith Climate Team - First Hill, EcoSangha at Seattle University, Bethany United Church of Christ, Interfaith Community Sanctuary, 37th Legislative District Environmental and Climate Caucus, University Unitarian Church Climate Action Team, Prospect Congregational United Church of Christ, and People for Climate Action - Seattle. Doors will open at 2:30. We are requiring attendees to be fully vaccinated (two weeks post second vaccination, per King County public health guidelines, subject to change if indicated) and masked. We encourage you to arrive early and be prepared to show vaccination card or a picture of the card, or proof of a negative Covid test within the past three days. We strongly encourage purchasing your ticket beforehand. It is possible to get tickets at the door using cash or a check. How to get to the event We encourage you to use public transit, bicycle, or car pool to the event if possible. Seattle First Baptist Church is served by King County Metro bus routes 2, 11, 12, 49, and 60, and the First Hill Streetcar. The Link Light Rail Capitol Hill Station is a few blocks away. For transit planning, you can use Google Maps or Metro's Trip Planner, or you can call Metro's customer info line at 206-553-3000, weekdays from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. If you drive, there are small parking lots around the church and Sunday street parking is free.
