Curling! That awesome Olympic sport that you've always wanted to try but you've never had the chance! Curling Open House – Where you can Throw Rocks at Houses Curling! You've seen it on the Olympics, talked about it at the office water cooler, or heard from friends that it looks like a blast.  Now it is time to give it a try!  Grab family and friends, come to our open house, and experience the fun of curling first-hand.  Curling is an Olympic sport popular around the world that is growing in popularity in the United States.  Take one part chess (strategy), one part billiards (angles), the finesse of golf (making shots), one part bocce (scoring) put them on ice, and you have curling! When:  Sunday, April 3, 2022 from 12:00 pm – 5:20 pm Where: Broomstones Curling Club – 1 Curling Lane, Wayland, MA Entry: $20 (age 13+); $10 (ages 8 to 12)  Ages 8 and above are welcome. Proof of COVID-19 vaccination required for entry. Masks required. Parking: off-site, location tbd. Please do not attempt to park at Broomstones Curling Club. What to do once you have your time slot:  Parking for open house guests is available off-site (a short drive to the club) on April 3, 2022.  We will have shuttle(s) to transport you to and from Broomstones.  Please plan to arrive at the parking lot by the check-in time you select at registration.  (Registration check-in times are the time when you will check in at the Parking Lot – it is not the time when you check-in at the club.)  Due to the popularity the Olympics has brought to the sport, we will have quite a few visitors that day. What to wear: Wear loose fitting, warm clothes (gloves, sweater/sweatshirt, etc) and clean, rubber-soled sneakers, and we'll take care of the rest (equipment, instruction, fun)! What to bring: Just yourself and proof of vaccination – no tickets are required, your reservation will be on a list at Check-in.  Everyone, no matter what age, needs a waiver. We will have them on hand, but to save time you may print from our web page, sign, and bring them with you.  Print Adult Waiver here.  Print Minor Waiver here.  FAQs When should I arrive for my time slot? We anticipate a healthy turnout on April 3rd.  Please plan to arrive at (off site parking lot) by your assigned time slot to allow for check-in at the parking lot and boarding your shuttle.  Also, please take into consideration the weather as you plan your travel time. What if I miss my time slot? We will do our best to work you into the next available time slot, but please make every effort to be on time.   What if there is inclement weather? Curlers, like postal carriers, curl rain, snow, sleet, or shine.  However, in the event of severe inclement weather (think Blizzard of ’78) we may have to postpone the open house.  Please check our website anytime after 9:00AM the morning of April 3rd. We will post any changes on our home page.     What should I expect when I get there? You will get an introduction to the sport of curling and then we will take you out on the ice!  Expect to experience curling first-hand, have a great time, and leave with an adventure to share with your friends! How long will I be there? We estimate your visit to Broomstones will take a total of about 1.5 hours, give or take!   What do I wear? You will be trying your hand at throwing a rock, so you will want to wear loose fitting warm clothes (gloves, sweater/sweatshirt, etc).  We do play on ice after all!  Please also wear clean rubber-soled sneakers.  We'll take care of the rest (equipment, instruction, etc)! Don't forget a mask! All guests visiting Broomstones on April 3rd will be required to wear a mask through the entirety of your stay, from the time you leave your vehicle until the time you return safely to your car. What if I'm not vaccinated against COVID-19? We're sorry, it is currently Broomstones policy that all members and guests at the club provide proof of COVID-19 vaccination. For the safety of our club members and other visitors, you will not be allowed onto the bus for this event without proof of vaccination. What other opportunities are there to experience curling at Broomstones? We are not currently open for membership enrollment.  We will take names of people interested in further curling experiences or potential membership for Fall 2022. Broomstones also does rentals! Broomstones Curling Club was founded in 1968 in Wayland, Massachusetts. There are over 350 members of Broomstones Curling Club, and the vast majority curl on a regular basis throughout our season that runs mid October through early April. Our members come from all walks of life and span a range of ages from six to ninety-six. Weekly league play includes women's, men's, mixed, and open formats, with four person teams organized to have fun and compete at levels from beginner to advanced. We also host a variety of in-house, regional, and international Bonspiels, promoting both the competitve and social aspects of the sport.   Our club is a 501(c)(3) Sports Education Foundation, dedicated to promoting the Olympic sport of curling through training and opportunities for, but not limited to, the youth of our community. Additionally, we provide training, education, and competition for all members of the community we serve.   Our facility has four sheets of ice, an inviting warm room, and excellent kitchen and bar facilities for our members. Broomstones is a member-run club.
