Description

Free baby/toddler food made with local ingredients for families enrolled at Geminus' Gary and East Chicago locations who also receive WIC. We welcome families enrolled at Gary and East Chicago Geminus locations to sign up for free nutritious, flavorful, heat-and-eat baby & toddler food boxes. The baby & toddler food boxes are complete with approximately 1 week's worth of food, made with ingredients fresh from local farms right here in Northwest Indiana. Families can choose boxes for beginning solid food eaters (4 months - 18 months) or finger-food food eaters (12 months - 5 years). Meals for your children are made with fresh, local ingredients available at farmers markets in Lake County. Did you know Indiana has an additional WIC benefit program just for farmers markets? You can request additional money from your WIC office to shop fresh ingredients at farmers market, where in 2022, several markets around the region will match your purchase at the market dollar-for-dollar. That means you can buy twice the food for your family! With your child's meal box, you'll also receive information about the upcoming farmers market season, how and where you can use WIC Farmers Market Nutrition Program money, along with additional info to support your family's efforts to eat healthy. Meal boxes will have recipes for you to be able to make your little one's favorites again at home to stretch your precious food dollars and provide your children the most nutritious food possible! The NWI Food Council's Baby & Toddler Food Giveaway is made possible by a generous grant from No Kid Hungry and in partnership with the Lake County Eats Local Farmers Market program and Purdue Extension. Sincere thanks to Mrs. Dornberg's Culinary Experience in Highland, IN for preparing the local food meal boxes. Questions? Please reach out at [email protected]. The NWI Food Council cultivates a just, thriving and regenerative food system for all in Northwest Indiana.
