The 1954 High School Basketball Championship featuring Milan High School.
Friday, March 11, 2022 at 7:00 join your Scottish Rite brothers and their guests for an amazing night of Hoosier History and high school basketball!
This is a rare opportunity to watch the classic David and Goliath games that inspired the movie “HOOSIERS.” Your Scottish Rite will show restored film of the complete Milan Vs. Terre Haute semi-final from 1954 and the complete classic Milan Vs. Muncie 1954 Final game.
The Terre Haute game played earlier in the day is action packed as the Terre Haute Gerstmeyer Tech players had it out for Bobby Plump and repeatedly and intentionally fouled him. He keeps taking foul shots as he’s unable to catch his breath after being beaten up. Gerstmeyer Tech had been in the state's Final Four the previous year and, like Milan, came into the tournament with only two losses.
The Muncie game is the famous game where in the 4th quarter the teams were tied until Milan’s Bobby Plump hit a 14-foot shot from the right side as time expired, denying the Bearcats their fifth state title.
All of this was shot on silent film, but our local film historian, Eric Grayson has not only restored this film, but has synchronized the original radio broadcasts to the film for a full basketball experience!
So come out and enjoy these historic games in the awesome Scottish Rite theater.
