Looking for free-thinking bassist.

Meets

Seattle WA

Description

We rehearse at least twice a week at the rehearsal studio in Belltown, Seattle. The band is just me and my drummer at the moment. I have over an album (and more) of unreleased original content which I have been working on since I was 15 (25 now). We are not a cover band, bar-band, Americana, etc (no disrespect though). Best I would describe is rock, grassroots grunge, post-punk, alternative, experimental. Definitely 4/4, but my melodies/rhythms can be somewhat strange regardless. Songs have a healthy range of speed/tempo. I am looking for a bassist who actively wants to be a part of this on a personal level. I have basslines written, but am totally open to handing the bassline-writing torch to someone who feels they can take responsibility for the bass section IN THEIR OWN UNIQUE WAY. For reference, I am interested in bassists who can resonate with bands like: Joy Division, Sonic Youth, Bauhaus, Killing Joke, Fugazi, and Nirvana(cliche unfortunately, sorry not sorry). I wouldn't specifically describe our music as copies of any of these bands, but these are heavy influences on me as a person. I'm a huge Peter Hook fan myself. If this sounds like something you are interested in even if you don't feel overly-experienced as a bassist don't worry just shoot me an email and we can chat more about it. I will message you some demos and my phone number over email. Requirements: 1. Transportation. (I don't want to have to drive your ass all the time lol) 2. A bass guitar. 3. Your own amplifier. (we have amps in the studio, but I would rather you already have taken the initiative as a 'bassist' to have your own gear at least. It shows me you play for yourself without a band) 4. Your own opinions. (Even if I don't agree with them) 5. Patience. (This project is one where I want to have the ability to hang with you 1 on 1 and include you in the writing process whole-heartedly. On the other hand if you just want me to feed you bass tabs I can do that, but you are way more useful if you can develope you own opinions and parts. I want to let your mind free as it's own independent instrument). I am very laid back and just want to create something fresh and unique with unique/creative people. If I don't like what you play, I will just tell you, but I doubt I will be closed minded about something you feel is right to you. Ideally I would set up a day where you can come and rehearse blind to one or two of our songs first to see you naturally react as a musician. Don't have any illusions that I'm gonna pay you to jam and work with us, if you aren't in it for the music I'm not into you. Your 'pay out' is whatever our combined final product is (ie: live show success/album), you will absolutely be credited with any contribution you invest musically of course. Shoot me a message, I cant wait to meet ya.
