Darien Police Sergeant Retires After Over 28 Years Of Service

DARIEN, CT — The Darien Police Department has announced the retirement of Sgt. Mark Cirillo after more than 28 years of service. In a post Tuesday on the department's Facebook page, police thanked Cirillo for his dedication and performance after almost three decades of work for the department and town. Cirillo served in field services as both an officer and a squad supervisor, and was a steady presence on the overnight patrol tour for many years, according to the post. He also served as a field training officer and a mentor to new officers, a firearms instructor and as a valued member of the Southwest Regional Emergency Response Team during his long career. "On behalf of the Darien Police Commission and Chief Don Anderson, we today wish Sgt. Cirillo all the best in his retirement and in all future endeavors, both personally and professionally," the post reads. "The job of a professional police officer is not an easy one...Sgt. Cirillo performed the task with honor and distinction and has well-earned his retirement from active service." In recognition of his retirement, the department added Cirillo's name and years of service to a brick on the department's "Wall of Honorable Service" at the police headquarters building. This honor is reserved for those who honorably retire from the department after serving for twenty years or more.
