Press release from Austin ISD - Announcement:
January 21, 2022
By Eddie Villa
During the spring semester, the district will excuse student absences related to pandemic concerns.
Why it matters: Families do not need to worry about their student's attendance being impacted because they have to stay at home due to COVID-19.
Families must communicate with their campus about absences.
Yes, but: State law requires all students to attend in person for at least 90% of the time, excused or unexcused, to earn credit for the course.
What they're saying: "We will not be keeping children from going to the next grade level because they had to stay out because of unusual circumstances at home," said Superintendent Stephanie S. Elizalde. "We will work with the individual student to give them enough time to get caught up."
The bottom line: We're doing everything we can to keep our schools open and safe for our students.
