Description
Press release from San Diego County Sheriff's Department:
01/22/2022
The following information is fragmentary and has not been completely verified. It is based, in part, on hearsay and is intended for early information use rather than being a formal investigative report.
On January 21, 2022, at about 7:20 p.m., Sheriff's deputies responded to the 8800 block of Diamondback Drive in Santee for a report of a man who shot another man. Deputies were provided a description of the male suspect and his vehicle.
Deputies spotted the vehicle leaving the area and conducted a high-risk vehicle stop in the 8700 block of Diamondback Drive. The suspect was alone in the vehicle and did not respond to the deputies' attempts to communicate with him. The deputies approached the vehicle and found the suspect had shot himself. Deputies removed the suspect from the vehicle and performed lifesaving measures until relieved by fire department personnel. Unfortunately, the suspect was pronounced deceased at the scene.
As the vehicle stop was being conducted, additional deputies responded to the location of the shooting. When they arrived, they found a man in a garage who had been shot. Fire department personnel conducted lifesaving measures on the man and transported him to a local area hospital. Unfortunately, he was pronounced deceased shortly after arriving at the hospital.
The Sheriff's Homicide Unit responded and has assumed responsibility of the investigation. The circumstances and motivations are under investigation. No suspects are outstanding.
